Flood Warnings Issued For Isle Of Wight

Several flood warnings have been issued for the Isle of Wight today (Monday).

Sandown, Yaverland, Yarbridge, Brading and Bembridge on the Eastern Yar

The water level in the Eastern Yar at Sandown remains very high but is slowly falling.

In the last 8 days, 108mm (more than a month’s rain) has been recorded at Wroxall.

Currently, there is extensive out of bank flooding affecting gardens, land and roads.

Land ditches around Sandown and Brading are struggling to drain to the river, especially at Brading.

Whitwell, Wroxall, Horringford, Langbridge and Alverstone on the Eastern Yar

At Langbridge and Alverstone, water levels are slowly falling.

A continuation of flooding affecting land, the access track to Horringford, cycle tracks and footpaths, gardens and roads (Golf Links) is expected.

Further light showers (up to 5mm) are forecast this afternoon.

The river should continue to lower for most of the day. However, from the early hours of Tuesday morning, heavy rain is forecast in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight with up to 20mm expected.

Eastern Yar and tributaries from Whitwell to Bembridge

A continuation of flooding affecting land, access and cycle tracks, gardens and roads (Golf Links and Moreton Common Road) throughout the Yar Valley is expected.

Light showers (5mm) are forecast later this afternoon, so today, the river will have more time to lower.

For potential impacts tomorrow, a Flood Warning will remain in force for Whitwell to Alverstone, another will be issued for Sandown and Brading.
