Freshwater residents are set to be without a Post Office for at least a month as Tesco sets up shop in the village.
The supermarket giant is taking over from Co-Op at its base on Afton Road, as Isle of Wight Radio first reported.
It means West Wight's biggest supermarket will temporarily shut while refurbishment works take place.
The Post Office, which also resides in the store, will remain, but will also have to close in the short-term.
A spokesperson for Tesco said:
“The Post Office will close for approximately four weeks while we fit out the new store.
"We apologise to customers for any inconvenience this may cause and we look forward to welcoming everyone to the new store once it’s ready."
With the nearest Post Office nearly two miles away in Totland, the news will come as a blow to residents who don't drive.
A branch can also be found more than two miles away in Yarmouth.
A Post Office spokesperson said:
"While the change over takes place, customers can use two alternative branches.
"Yarmouth (Quay Street) open 9am to 12pm Monday to Friday and Totland Bay operating from The Broadway Inn open 8.30am to 1pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 11am on Saturday."
Earlier this week, Tesco submitted plans to change the building's signage. The supermarket is expected to change hands in the Autumn.
No exact dates have yet been confirmed for the start of works.
