Friends Of St Mary’s Hospital Donate £27,000 To Support Patients And Staff

The Friends of St Mary’s Hospital would like to say a huge thank you to the island community for their generous donations, volunteering and fundraising efforts.

In 2024 The Friends Fund donated over £27,000 to St Mary’s Hospital to support services and equipment above the standard level provided by the NHS.

Lesley Myland, Chairman of the Friends of St Mary’s Hospital said:

“On behalf of the Friends of St Mary’s I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported The Friends in some way.

"Whether you have visited our shop at St Mary’s or enjoyed refreshments at our cafes, to fundraising and donating, we are so incredibly grateful for the support.

“It is the support from our community that helps to provide the extra comforts that really make the difference to our patients and to our staff.”

The Friends were delighted to donate £2,000 to the Children’s Community Team in 2024. The generous donation enabled the team to purchase 10 vibrating watches and 7 bedwetting alarms with mats.

Victoria Bamford, Children’s Continence Associate Practitioner said:

“We are extremely grateful to the Friends for their generous donation.

"This much needed equipment will be loaned out to children struggling with nocturnal enuresis/constipation in our monthly clinics.

“Our new assessments have highlighted children do not drink enough during the day.

"This impacts on their day and night-time enuresis. Having the watches to set reminders throughout the day will be an incentive to drink more and prevent enuresis, as well as having a positive outcome on any constipation, giving the children some empowerment.

“In the past we have asked parents to purchase these but in the current climate with the cost of living this is not always possible.”
