Hundreds of Islanders have reportedly been left ‘stranded’ in Southampton following a Take That concert last night (Saturday).
The British pop band have been performing at St Mary's stadium as part of their UK tour - which has also seen performances from the likes of Olly Murs.
Islanders flocked to get tickets when they went on sale earlier this year and made the journey across the Solent - reassured by Red Funnel's announcement of extra Red Jet sailings to get them home again at the end of the night.
However, Isle of Wight Radio listeners have reported that the extra 23:45 sailing did not have the capacity available to ferry concert goers back to the Island - with 'hundreds' of residents being directed to catch the midnight car ferry sailing instead.
One listener told Isle of Wight Radio:
"The queue for the Jet was so long, and we got within touching distance of the boat before being told we couldn't get on.
"They (Red Funnel) have told us to get the car ferry - which apart from taking longer, would be fine, but we've parked in Cowes and will end up in East Cowes."
Further turmoil has since been caused with passengers reporting that the midnight car ferry sailing has been declared full - leaving the remaining passengers with a potential 5 hour wait for the next crossing.
Isle of Wight Radio has contacted Red Funnel for comment.
Update: It’s understood that the Floating Bridge will remain in service later than planned this evening to allow affected passengers to return to their vehicles.
