Girl On The Train Arriving At Apollo Theatre As Next Production Prepares For Curtain Up

The next production at the Apollo Theatre, Newport, will be the play adaptation of Paula Hawkins’ best-selling thriller The Girl on the Train.

The play follows Rachel, a young woman unsatisfied with her job and reeling after a breakup, who finds solace imagining the lives of a couple she sees each day from the window of her train commute. But when the woman she’s been watching disappears, Rachel wonders if she could be the key to finding her.

Readers may remember that a few months ago, the Apollo Theatre Players did something completely different—they advertised for actors to audition for this production.

They felt that attracting new members who might not be aware of the opportunities available at the lovely theatre in Newport’s Pyle Street would be beneficial. That decision had a great outcome: three new members, two of whom had never performed for the Apollo before and one who returned after a few years away.

The Players had hoped to attract a few excellent actors in the 20s to 30s age group, and that’s exactly what happened.

The play’s director, Helen Reading, said:

"It’s always good to see new faces on stage, as well as some familiar well-seasoned ones! I am always hoping to see new actors, and I love teaching skills to those who are inexperienced, watching them grow and develop throughout the process. I was given that opportunity back in the 90s in my first production; Hilary Foister, the director, taught me so much and gave me a lifeline, so it’s only fair to pass it on!"

The Girl on the Train can be seen on stage at the Apollo Theatre from 6-14 September (not Sunday or Monday). Book online at www.apollo-theatre.org.uk or ring the box office on (01983) 210010.
