A pub in Godshill has closed its doors for a major refurbishment - before reopening under the management of landlords, the Stonegate Group.
The Griffin shut on Monday (2), following the expiry of its current lease.
A redevelopment of the premises on Godshill High Street will now take place, before a planned reopening in spring this year.
It's not known what will happen to the current staff, but it's understood there are hopes an agreement can be reached with the Stonegate Group.
The current landlords posted the following statement on Facebook:
"Sorry to inform you, but as from 02/01/23 The Griffin's doors are closed.
"Upon the expiry of the current lease, the landlords (Stonegate Group) have decided that the Griffin is such a wonderful pub, that they wished to further its development under their own banner as one of their managed houses.
"The pub will remain closed while redevelopment takes place, hopefully re-opening its doors in the Spring after a major transformation.
"In the 7 years it has been my pleasure to 'guide the ship' I have worked with a fantastic team, and met some wonderful customers, who i am sure will help support the pub when it reopens.
"Hopefully the current team can reach agreement with their possible new employer to continue to give the pub the same level of service and quality it deserves."
