A key route in and out of Ventnor will see its planned closure pushed back by a week, according to the Isle of Wight Council.
The Graben has been due to close for two weeks from the 17th June - a closure that prompted some disdain from residents who are already struggling to access the town due to the closure of Leeson Road following a landslip.
The route will now close on the 24th June for 14 days to allow vital works by Southern Water.
The Council said this is due to the need for extra bus services to run along the affected stretch of road during the Isle of Wight Festival.
Once closed, the only remaining access to Ventnor will be via Whitwell. A one way system will be in place between Godshill and Whitwell due to the narrow width of the carriageway.
As is currently the case, provision will be made for emergency vehicles - including access to the town via the closed Leeson Road.
