Armed police have detained a woman 'at gunpoint' in Newport this afternoon (Wednesday).
Eyewitnesses have told Isle of Wight Radio the incident unfolded on Coppins Bridge at around 4pm.
It's understood a woman, detained, was taken across the road to Newport Police Station.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said:
"We were called at 3.45pm today (24 August) to a report of a person waving around a firearm on Coppins Bridge, Newport.
"Due to the nature of the report, armed response vehicles were quickly deployed to the scene to ensure the safety of the public.
"A 35-year-old woman has since been arrested on suspicion of possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear.
"An unloaded BB gun was seized along with ammunition and a small lock knife."
