Cowes RNLI Station welcomed His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of the Isle of Wight, Mrs Susie Sheldon, as she delivered service medals for long-standing crew.
The presentation and celebration aptly took place on King Charles’ birthday.
A total of 23 crew members at the station, with roles ranging from boat and shore crew to operations, were recognised for their length of dedicated service towards the charity’s aim: to save lives at sea.
The medals, created to celebrate the King’s Coronation, were presented to lifeboat volunteers with five years of service at the time of the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla on 6 May 2023.
The Lord-Lieutenant congratulated the volunteers for their service, welcoming new crew members and celebrating the station’s commitment.
HM Lord-Lieutenant said:
“Presenting the Coronation Medal to members of Cowes RNLI was an honour, these are people who give their time freely to save lives, and the recognition is richly deserved.”
Myles Hussey, who has been at the station since July 2017 and is one of the station’s fully qualified helms, said:
“I joined the RNLI in 2017, after a fishing trip with my late Grandad. We saw the lifeboat go past, and I promised him that one day I would volunteer.
"I am proud to have spent the last seven years immersing myself in life at the station, from training to shouts.
"It was wonderful to take the time last week to celebrate the many committed volunteers at Cowes RNLI station among family and friends.”
