House And Vehicles Damaged In Lake Fire

Crews from across the Isle of Wight were alerted to a fire on Desmond Price Close in Lake shortly before 7pm last night.

The HIWFRS Control Room received around 20 emergency calls reporting the blaze.

Firefighters from Sandown, Ryde and Shanklin were supported by Ventnor’s water carrier and the Newport aerial ladder vehicle.

The fire, involving an area of sheds, spread to the roof of a nearby house before also damaging a camper van and a car.

Firefighters in breathing apparatus tackled the fire using jets and hose reels.

Gas and electric engineers were on the scene to isolate the supplies to the building.

The stop message came in shortly before 10pm when crews began to leave the scene having already completed several post incident safety visits to nearby addresses.

A reinspection took place earlier this morning to ensure there were no remaining hotspots.
