Independent Arts Walking Challenge Aims To Bring Fitness And Funds To Local Community

Islanders are being invited to put their best foot forward for wellbeing charity Independent Arts by taking part in '70 Mile May.'

The free to enter trek, now in its second year, challenges participants to head outdoors and walk 70 miles through the month of May — the equivalent combined distance of the Island’s costal paths.

People can take part anywhere on the Island, tracking their miles online and raising money as they progress.

In addition, Independent Arts is offering like-minded walkers and fundraisers a chance to join the Independent Arts team for organised guided walks throughout the month, varying in difficulty, themes and location.

Walkers are being invited to follow the Independent Arts fundraisers Facebook group.

Participants can join a free nature walk, led by local expert Dave Fairlamb of Nature Links.

This will take place in Bembridge, with full details to be released to fundraisers soon.

Among other guided walks, Independent Arts will also be leading a free local history trek around Cowes on Thursday 12 May, as part of the Isle of Wight Walking Festival.

Those who would like to support 70 Mile May can donate to the Just Giving page online.
