Intrepid UK Charity Walker Reaches The Isle Of Wight

An intrepid walker - who is aiming to cover the whole of the UK's coastline - has reached the Isle of Wight.

Chris Lewis set off on the mammoth challenge to raise money for the Armed Forces charity, SSAFA, back in 2017.

He left his home in Wales to walk the entire UK coastline, with just his dog, Jet, and a rucksack.

Despite being halted by COVID and other obstacles along the way, the ex-paratrooper has managed to raise a staggering £274,000 so far on his journey.

After leaving the armed forces in 2004, Chris found himself on the streets and SSAFA helped him deal with the life change.

He is also a single dad to daughter Caitlin, 19, who attends college in Bournemouth.

Christian has been joined on the Isle of Wight this week by his dog, his partner and their young baby.

He said:

"So yesterday was a stunning walk accompanied by a stunning day and the perfect team to walk it with!.

"We made it to The Needles, the south-west tip of the Isle of Wight. Today we only have a few km to do, taking us to where we first started here at Freshwater Bay.

"Our ferry is booked for Thursday, so I have a bit of time to get more done for my book, strip out all our gear and give it a good clean, as well as rest the paws and legs ready to continue back on the mainland.

"We want to say a massive thank you to the people of the Isle of Wight for having us, and to all of you who offered help in some way. We really appreciate and are sorry if we didn't get to meet some of you for whatever reason.

It's been a real pleasure to walk your beautiful Island! The nomads that we are means we say goodbye for now after today."
