Investigation Launched After Dog Kills Swan In Freshwater

Police are seeking information after a dog killed a swan in Freshwater yesterday evening (Friday).

Officers were called to The Causeway at around 6pm, finding one swan dead and a second injured.

It's understood a young girl - who was walking a black dog - lost control of the canine, which then chased the swans.

Tragically, attempts to save one of two birds it attacked proved unsuccessful.

Anyone with information or CCTV footage is being asked to contact police via 101 or online, quoting 44230137683.

A spokesperson for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said:

“We have received reports of a black dog chasing after swans and killing one of them on open land near Afton Road in Freshwater between 5.30pm and 6pm on Friday April 7.

“Enquiries are ongoing to identify the dog and its owners.

“Anyone with information or video footage which can aid our investigation can report this to us via 101 or online, quoting 44230137683.”
