Island Line And Hovertravel Team Up To Promote Car Free Travel Scheme

Hovertravel and Island Line have teamed up to promote car-free travel from the Isle of Wight for residents, and visitors who may be holidaying on the island, and planning a day trip.

Loretta Lale, head of commercial at Hovertravel, explains:

"As a foot passenger ferry we are always encouraging our customers to park their cars and fly across the Solent with us, and our customers are consistently asking us for the most convenient and cheapest options.

"Several Island Line stations have facilities which offer really great value for parking your car – from as little as £2 per day.

"So we are looking to encourage our customers to park at their local rail station, hop on the train and then catch the hovercraft.”

Car parking at Shanklin, Sandown and Ryde St.Johns Road stations costs just £2 per day, with the more limited spaces at Brading station offered for free.

Customers then get to use more sustainable modes of transport for their trips to the mainland, complete with convenient connections and a quicker journey, with London just over two hours from Shanklin.

Through ticketing including your hovercraft flight and all train tickets is bookable at both the rail stations and online, with discounts for all rail card holders.

Plus your rail ticket entitles you to use the Hoverbus for free, connecting the hoverport at Southsea to both train stations in Portsmouth.

Mark Dunn, Island Line General Manager, said:

“We are very pleased to join Hovertravel for the Park, Ride and & Fly initiative, which highlights the great prices and parking available to Island Line customers.

"These prices are available now through station car park pay machines and via the Ringo app.

"As these are not promotional prices, regular customers can take advantage of even better value weekly car parking prices and for our season ticket holders, car parking is included free-of-charge.”

Isle of Wight residents can also save on their Hovertravel flights with HoverBlue fares which gives an ongoing discount of over 30% on day returns and over 10% on adult period returns.
