A man has been arrested onboard a Red Funnel Ferry heading to the Isle of Wight following an incident that allegedly saw a staff member assaulted.
Isle of Wight Police responded to the firm's East Cowes terminal this morning after receiving a report of a man attempting to steal alcohol onboard the vessel.
Police say that a staff member who had tried to challenge a suspect was assaulted.
A Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesperson said:
"Police were called at 10.15am this morning to East Cowes Ferry Terminal following an incident on the sailing from Southampton.
"It has been reported that a man had attempted to steal alcohol on-board but was challenged by staff, and when he was asked to leave the ferry he became obstructive and a member of staff was assaulted."
A 35-year-old man from Newport has been arrested on suspicion of assault occasional actual bodily harm, attempted theft and attempted assault of an emergency worker.
