A former Isle of Wight Radio DJ, designer and Ryde Town Councillor is set to feature as one of the contestants on a popular BBC television show.
Georgie Carter will compete with 11 other amateur sewists in various challenges over the coming weeks, starting next Tuesday (May 21).
In a post on her social media, Georgie said:
"Oh my gosh - the secret is finally out! I’m a contestant on the one and only Great British Sewing Bee!
"I have been in love with the sewing bee since it started and have probably watched each series several times on repeat, but never dreamt I’d actually get on the show.
"It still feels very surreal but I'm incredibly honoured to be part of the 'hive' and to have met such awesome people on this crazy ride."
Taught the basics by her mother and grandmother, Georgie has been sewing on and off for 10 years.
She started out by making curtains and roman blinds followed by handbags and cushions.
She describes her style as a smorgasbord of casual chic, grungy boho and ‘earth mother hippy’, qualities borne out in her passion for sustainability and aversion to 'fast fashion'.
Outside of sewing, Georgie spends her time growing her own fruit and vegetables on her allotment and volunteering for her community as an elected Town Councillor.
She also loves to knit and is slowly working towards making her entire wardrobe self-made or second hand.
The inaugural episode of this year's Great British Sewing Bee will air on BBC1 on Tuesday May 21 from 9pm.
