Islanders Urged To Snap Up Last Few Funded Places On Digital Weight Loss Program

A digital weight loss program, which has already helped 5,500 residents around the UK lose more than 1,000 stone between them, has 22 funded places remaining for residents of the Isle of Wight.

Currently 2,629 people around the country are either on the gloji programme or about to start.

The program gives users access to personalised coaching through specially trained health mentors, who are on hand to support by phone as needed.

It is being made available free to residents of the Isle of Wight by healthy lifestyle and wellbeing service provider Thrive Tribe and the Isle of Wight Council as part of the government’s adult weight management services grant.

On the Isle of Wight, 62.3% of adults are either overweight or obese, which could equate to nearly 76,000 adults.

One person who has benefitted is 65-year-old Billy Barling, a resident at a care home in Market Rasen, North Lincolnshire, who says taking part in the gloji program has not only led to him losing weight.

He is only halfway through the program, but has reduced his blood pressure and improved his mobility to the point that he can now bend down, which he couldn’t do before.

Billy said:

“I don’t go for second helpings all the time like I used to, and I’ve swapped out my snack biscuits for fruit.

"I still eat the things I like though. ‘Fish and chip’ Friday is one of my favourites so I still have it.

"I’m also exercising a lot more, but I’ve come off cake, I’ve come off chocolate and I’ve come off puddings. I’m just really happy and proud of myself!”

Jack Bennett, operations Lead at gloji, added:

“Billy proves that digital content can be just as effective as others and that the content available through gloji is powerful and flexible enough to fit in with whatever else you might be doing.

"We really hope Isle of Wight residents follow Billy’s example and allow gloji to enjoy the same life changing benefits that Billy and thousands of others already have.”
