Island real ale enthusiasts have voted the Newport Ale House as their favourite Isle of Wight pub and Earl’s RDA from Island Brewery as its top beer for 2024.
The Isle of Wight has an active CAMRA branch and all members had the chance to vote online for their preferred pub and beer.
Tim Marshall, Editor of the local CAMRA magazine ‘Wightwash’ commented:
“Our members really enjoy a traditional pub, that keeps a good selection of real ales throughout the year.
"I’d like to offer my congratulations to both the winners and the very worthy runners-up.”
All three of the Island’s most established breweries were well represented among the twenty beers nominated, but it was Earl’s RDA that claimed the top spot overall, being described by the Island Brewery as a ‘rich, dark ale with a moreish cappuccino aftertaste’.
Alongside Goddards and Yates there was also an appearance from Wight Knuckle, which is the Island’s most recent brewery.
Landlord of the Newport Ale House, Rod Kellaway commented:
“We really try to support our real ale drinkers and you can regularly enjoy three different beers straight from the cask.
"This often includes Earl’s RDA. We’re grateful for our efforts to be appreciated by the local members of CAMRA.
"We support all our local breweries. I'd like to say thank you to all my local and visiting customers, as well as a big thank you to all my staff.
"Without them and all the customers Newport Ale House would not be what it is."
Chris Mousley, Sales Director at Island Brewery said:
"Great to hear that Earl’s RDA is Beer of The Year. We are so proud that the CAMRA members have voted Earl’s as its top beer on eight out of the last nine occasions.
"From day one, this brew has been aligned with the Earl Mountbatten Hospice and our charitable donations still continue.
"So Earl’s is a winner on both fronts."
There will be a presentation at the Newport Ale House on 14th May.
