A teenager was arrested yesterday (Tuesday) following reports that he had taken firearm with him to the Isle of Wight College.
Police were called at 3.16pm with concerns that a teenager on the grounds of Isle of Wight College was in possession of an item which looked like a firearm.
Officers attended the college before arresting a 17-year-old boy in Cowes.
Police seized a lighter, which was in the shape of a firearm.
A spokesperson for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said:
"We are satisfied that this incident did not involve a viable firearm and there have been no reports to police at this time of individuals being threatened.
"The 17-year-old was arrested on suspicion of possession of an imitation firearm in a public place.
"He was released from custody but remains under investigation."
