Isle Of Wight Composer Overcomes Hip Replacement To Collect Prestigious Music Award At Royal Albert Hall

Isle of Wight resident, and lifetime composer of educational music, Pam Wedgwood, has been awarded the Art of Piano Education Lifetime Achievement Award 2024 presented at a prestigious ceremony at The Royal Albert Hall last week.

However, it was touch and go whether she would make the journey from The Isle of Wight to London to collect her award having recently had a hip replacement and was booked in for knee replacement surgery earlier this week.

Pam, who began her long association with Faber Music in 1988, is recognised around the world as one of the UK’s most prolific and successful composers of popular repertoire for young and old instrumentalists.

Accompanied by her son who flew from Queensland to celebrate the award with her, the award formed part of the 2024 Star Prize Festival which celebrates young pianists from around the world.

Not one to let pain get the better of her, Pam enjoyed an evening with her music peers celebrating performances from young pianists and was delighted to have been recognised for the lifetime achievement.

Pam says:

“It was such a shock to be nominated for the award and win - I thought they had got the wrong person!

"It was wonderful to be able to collect the award in person with my son there to support me after he had flown all the way from Australia for the event.

"I had been a bit worried about making the journey from the Isle of Wight to London as I have not long had a hip replacement and about to have my knee replaced too!"
