Conservative Isle of Wight Council leader Dave Stewart has lost his seat to an Isle of Wight Green Party candidate.
Claire Critchison, the only other candidate standing in the Chale, Niton and Shorwell ward, has claimed victory, it’s understood.
The results are only provisional and no final declaration has yet been made.
Mr Stewart has held a place on the Isle of Wight Council since 2010.
He took over as council leader in 2017.
He said:
"It's disappointing having worked particularly for the election to get a team together a team that I think can and WILL run the council over the next four years but it is not to be - the electorate have the final say and we should all remember that."
Listen to what he had to say here:
Mr Stewart’s departure means there will be a new Isle of Wight Council leader, regardless of which party wins.
