A wide range of events for children and adults will be taking place across all Isle of Wight Council-run libraries in celebration of Green Libraries Week (7-13 October).
At Lord Louis Library in Newport, children can make a self-portrait using only recycled materials, while there’s more recycling fun to be had at Cowes Library with their recycled craft activity.
At Sandown Library, the Sandown Green Town Volunteers are holding a talk about all the wonderful ways they help to keep Sandown litter-free and looking lovely.
Meanwhile, Freshwater Library is giving children the chance to get green-fingered and re-pot some of their baby spider plants while Ventnor Library is also getting leafy with their autumn leaf craft event.
Last year during Green Libraries Week all council-run libraries introduced the loaning of litter-pickers and these can be borrowed individually or by groups for litter-picking sessions.
There are also Recycling for Good Causes boxes at all libraries where people can bring in stamps, old phones, certain electrical items and costume jewellery to be recycled.
Money raised from the recycling goes to Isle of Wight-based charities.
A number of Isle of Wight libraries also now have Green Island Veg Economy (GIVE) tables giving customers the opportunity to share seeds, plants and produce in their communities.
Visit the library website to find out more about these activities and all of the services and activities that the library service has to offer throughout the year.
New visitors can get involved today by signing up for a library card and keep up to date with the latest news and updates, by following the library service at @IWLibraries on Facebook.
