Isle Of Wight Council statement on Bonchurch landslip

The Isle of Wight Council has issued a statement regarding the overnight landslip in Bonchurch.

The statement says:

“Last night (Sunday 10 December) Council officers attended the scene at Bonchurch Shute and Smugglers Haven and liaised with police to support and assist residents, and ensure they were safe."

“Approximately 20 properties were evacuated. The majority of households chose to stay with friends and family, and for those unable to do so, temporary accommodation has been provided."

“Island Roads have closed the Road between Bonchurch Shute and Shanklin, whilst police officers have remained at the scene overnight."

“With daylight, Council officers are on site assessing the full extent of the landslip and its impact."

"The Isle of Wight Council is advising residents to stay away from the area until further notice."

Those who have been affected are asked to call the council helpline on 823111.
