Isle of Wight cricketer, Danny Briggs, has signed for Warwickshire CCC on a three-year contract.

The 29-year-old bowler has taken 568 wickets across all formats in an 11-year career in the professional game.

Born on the Isle of Wight, Briggs made his debut for Hampshire as a 19-year-old in a One-Day Cup game in 2009 and spent seven years with his native county before joining Sussex ahead of the 2016 season.

Briggs made his T20I debut at Edgbaston in a victory over South Africa in 2012 and he went on to play in the ICC World T20 in Sri Lanka later that year.

He joins as the leading wicket-taker in the history of the Vitality Blast with 172 wickets - and joins fellow Isle of Wight man, Adam Hose, at Edgbaston.

Briggs is aiming to play all formats of the game at his new home for Warwickshire and Birmingham Bears,

Speaking to the Warwickshire CCC website, Briggs said:

“That is something I am proud of. I guess it shows I have been consistent for a while now.

“I will be looking to bring that to the Bears and add to the Twenty20 team and I’ve also played a fair few games now, so can add some experience to the side and get us winning games and through to the knockout stages.

“I just can’t wait to get going. This has been a weird seasons, just a couple of months, and it’s gone in the blink of an eye, so I think people are already looking forward to next year and someone in my position, with a new club to play for, even more so.

“I’ve had a great time at Hove over the last four years, but I’m delighted to make this move and join Warwickshire and the Bears.

"I like Paul Farbrace’s exciting vision for the Club, and it aligns with what I would like to achieve in the coming years.

“I’m looking to be part of all format success and I haven’t given up a strong desire to play at the highest levels again.”

Warwickshire Sport Director, Paul Farbrace, said:

“For several years Danny has been widely recognised as one of the leading spinners in the county game and he is an excellent addition to our squad."
