Isle Of Wight Festival 2021: John Giddings Chats Line-Up, Ticket Sales And Challenges

The organiser of the Isle of Wight Festival says he is "really excited" this year's event will go ahead - and has promised to deliver a line-up of a "decent calibre to say the least".

Speaking exclusively to Isle of Wight Radio, John Giddings says he is delighted "the summer of fun is going to return".

As Isle of Wight Radio first reported, Isle of Wight Festival 2021 will be held in September, instead of June.

It follows the Government's roadmap announcement last week.

Mr Giddings said:

"It seems safest and the best idea [to move it to September]. The weather is also always good in September and gets darker earlier so the bands will have more fun!

"The momentum is there. Leeds and Reading Festival has sold out, Boomtown has sold out, Creamfields has sold out - there is huge demand for festivals and going to a field and enjoying music with your friends for four days in the sun.

"I'm really excited and pleased that we're doing it - it's been hard work."

More than 40,000 tickets have already been sold for this year's festival, following the postponement of 2020's event.

The likes of Lionel Richie, Duran Duran and Lewis Capaldi were all set to take to the Seaclose Park stage last year, before the pandemic struck.

Although it is still early days in the planning, Mr Giddings has confirmed he is talking to all of those acts about making an appearance this year.

He said:

"Let's see. We're going to talk to them all. If they can't do it in September then we'll invite them for 2022.

"But I think our reputation shows that we would provide artists of a decent calibre to say the least so I think everybody wants to have a good time so we'll deliver for you."

For those concerned about coronavirus, Mr Giddings said there will be measures in place and he "does not want to be responsible for a fourth wave".
