Isle Of Wight Housebuilders Donate To Cowes Men's Shed

Cowes Men's Shed

Two Isle of Wight housebuilders have donated £1,000 to Cowes Men’s Shed as part of its Community Fund.

Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes’ are supporting the charity - that supports Islanders suffering from social isolation and is open to anyone over 18 on the Island – not just men.

It offers a carpentry workshop, craft room and garden to support those in need of companionship and purpose.

The community organisation offers its members the chance to give something back to the community as they restore furniture for other Islanders in need and take on projects for other charities and good causes across the region, as part of a team.

Now, the charity has received financial backing from the housebuilder's Community Fund Scheme, which donates £1,000 to worthy causes in the region each month.

Adam Martin from the Cowes Men’s Shed is delighted that the project has received this vital support from Barratt and David Wilson Homes.

He said:

“One in six households on the Island is a person aged 65 and over living alone. We want to offer these individuals, and anyone suffering from isolation, a place to meet like- minded people and learn new skills.

“With this generous donation, we will update our carpentry equipment to make our members’ work easier and safer. We are extremely grateful for Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ support, which means we can continue to help people feel like worthwhile members of the
community.”

Tammy Bishop, Sales Director at Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes, Southampton Division, said:

“After we heard about the amazing support this organisation was providing for the Isle of Wight, we had to help.

“The global pandemic has meant that many people across the country have found themselves isolated from family and friends, and the help this project is providing is fantastic.

“The Shed is bringing people together as well as offering support for other people in need through its work, which is incredible."
