The Isle of Wight Conservative Association has confirmed that current Island MP, Bob Seely, has been adopted as the Conservative parliamentary candidate for the new constituency of Isle of Wight West.
Mr Seely will represent the Conservative Party in this constituency in any General Election which takes place from July 2023 onwards - once the new boundaries have taken effect.
The decision was made at a meeting in Newport on Friday February 3.
Mr Seely said:
"I am delighted to have been selected as the Conservative Party candidate for the Isle of Wight West constituency, and I would like to thank the appointing committee for their support.
“Soon, the Island will have two Members of Parliament - one for West and one for East. I live in the Isle of Wight West constituency, so it’s the natural choice for me.
“Naturally, I am disappointed to be losing the opportunity to represent the whole Island following the next General Election but, if I am given the honour of being re-elected, I will work with the MP for Isle of Wight East to ensure that we collectively speak up for the Island as a whole, in the same way I have done since 2017.
“For now, I will continue to represent the whole Island in equal measure until the next General Election.”
A Conservative parliamentary candidate for the new constituency of Isle of Wight East will be selected in due course.
