Isle Of Wight Radio DJ Paul Topping Braced For Hurricane Milton As Orlando Trip Takes Scary Turn

(Sky News)

Isle of Wight Radio's Paul Topping will be in the eye of the storm - or hurricane - tonight, as his dream vacation to Florida turns into a nightmare.

Breakfast show host Paul, who has been enjoying some much deserved time off over the past couple of weeks, has found himself and his family filling a bath tub with 'drinking water' and purchasing flashlights rather than enjoying Disney, as Hurricane Milton continues to cause carnage across the United States.

Milton - a category four storm - has seen wind speeds reach an astonishing 165mph this week.

Disney parks in Florida closed this afternoon

Paul explains:

"The past couple of days have been an ordeal, be it filling the bath up as it could be our only drinking water for the next 24-48 hours, gathering flashlights, or preparing to hunker down until the storm passes.

"Local news reports seems horrific, and although there is no visible damage around the area we're staying, we've been told to expect significant damage over the next few days.

"Disney Parks all closed from 1pm today - something unprecedented - and they're not expected to re-open until Friday at the earliest.

"The airport will also be shut down for at least a day or two, with 15 inches of rain forecast over the next 12 to 24 hours."

Deanne Criswell, from the US federal emergency management agency (Fema), earlier said that the hurricane will bring a "deadly and catastrophic" storm to the state.

There are more than 1,200 additional search and rescue staff in place, along with millions of meals and water supplies across Florida.
