Isle Of Wight Schools Unite For Mufti Day To Support Local Teen Arlo

Almost 30 Isle of Wight schools have now signed up for a fundraiser to support 16-year-old Arlo Lambie, who has been bravely battling an aggressive grade 4 brain tumour.

In a heartfelt show of solidarity, schools across the Island will participate in a special mufti day on February 7.

The theme for the day was designed by Arlo.

“Wear What Makes You Happy,” encourages students to express themselves while raising funds for his ongoing treatment.

“When everyone at Ryde Academy heard about Arlo and the wonderful idea of the IW education community coming together to support him, it was an opportunity not to be missed,” said Will Doyle, Head of School at Ryde Academy.

“The Island is a wonderful community, and the schools within it model a collegiate togetherness to support those in need. In times of great challenge, we strive to foster a sense of community in our students.

"Thus, we are proud to take part in this initiative for Arlo.”

The remaining schools who have not yet signed up are being encouraged to join in, and allow their students to stand together with Arlo.

Schools can sign up at [email protected]

The initiative was inspired by Arlo’s friend, 15-year-old Taylor Willows, who expressed his desire to help.

Taylor said:

“Arlo is a family friend, and I couldn’t stop thinking about wanting to help him, and for people our age to do something.

“My mates were donating their own money, but it didn’t feel enough. So I thought about a mufti day at my school, and then I thought it would be amazing for all schools to stand with Arlo and show that even though we are young, we can help too.

“Arlo is the nicest guy; he deserves our help. I hope this day fills him with a smile.”

Schools are being asked to allow students to wear their favourite outfits, whether it be a beloved band T-shirt, sports jersey, comfies or anything else that brings them joy.

Donations collected on the day will go directly to Arlo’s family to assist with medical expenses, treatments not available on the NHS and other needs during this challenging time.

This event not only demonstrates the strength of the Isle of Wight community but also highlights the compassion and kindness of the young people here.

To date the Island community has donated to their cause getting them £65,000 which will support treatments available outside the NHS, for an estimated six months.

There is still more to raise.
