Isle Of Wight Scouts Say ‘Thank You’ To Volunteers

Isle of Wight Scouts have marked ‘Thank You Day’ (Sunday 5) by saying a big thanks to 400 Scout volunteers on the Island.

Ali Burt, the lead volunteer co-ordinator for Scout volunteers across the Isle of Wight says:

“Our 400 volunteers are always active in the heart of the community across the Island. They are behind many of the services we all rely on. And they support the provision of weekly activities for 1,000 young people across the Island. We want to say a big thank you to everyone who supports scouting across the Island.

“The contribution of volunteers is often unseen and unrecognised by many, visible only through the incredible impact of their volunteering.

"Recently we have published our ‘Roll of Honour’ recognising exceptional and long service by volunteer adults, awarded during 2021. The list of recipients represents over 1,500 years of voluntary service and we were able to recognise the services of more of our volunteers at our Annual General Meeting in May 2022.”

Recent awards made on 4 May 2022 included:
• Mary Kershaw, Group Scout Leader, 1st Godshill and Rookley Scout Group - Silver Acorn
• Anthony Roberts, retiring County Chair and former County Commissioner, now Vice-President - Award of Merit
• Mary McAlister, County Administrator - Silver Acorn
• Graham Salter, Chair Finance Committee - Bar to Silver Acorn
• John Earley, County Administrator - 20 Years’ Service and Bar to Award of Merit
• Connor Jones, Assistant Beaver Scout Leader and retiring County Youth Commissioner - Chief Scouts Commendation
• Rob Scott, Chair, 1st Northwood Scout Group - Chief Scouts Commendation
• Shaun Hunnybun, Group Scout Leader, 1st Newport (Old Guard) Scout Group - Bar to Award of Merit

Scout volunteers give young people across the Island a brighter future by helping them gain skills for life.
