Isle Of Wight Siblings In Britain's Got Talent Semis With Armed Forces Choir

Two Isle of Wight children will take to the stage for the semi-final of Britain's Got Talent tonight (Tuesday).

Henry and Dulcie Walker, from Ryde, are in London getting ready to perform in front of a live TV audience, and of course, celebrity judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, David Walliams and Alesha Dixon.

The brother and sister, who go to Ryde School, form part of the Voices of Armed Forces Children Choir.

Henry and Dulcie, whose dad Mark is in the Royal Navy, joined around a year ago to meet children whose parents also serve. The choir is made up of around 30 to 40 triservice children, from across the UK, aged between six and 18.

With the exception of Henry and Dulcie, many of those performing are from Yorkshire village of Catterick (where there is an army base).

Both of their proud parents, including dad Mark, will be there tonight to cheer them on.

Speaking to Isle of Wight Radio mum Miriam said she's on "tenterhooks":

"I'm really nervous. I obviously want them to go through but I just want them to have the most amazing experience and I think whatever happens after today, I just want them to have the most amazing experience and come away from it today feeling like they've all done something together.

"Their dad is here and after having years and years of being deployed, missing their births and everything else, he is actually here which is a bit of a miracle! When we left the hotel he was welling up so that says it all about his emotional state at the moment."

Henry and Dulcie often travel to Yorkshire to meet with the choir and practice via Zoom.

Their performance in the audition phase of the competition brought tears to the eyes of the judges and the crowd.

"I think people often forget about these children, Miriam said.

"Their parents are seen and heard about but the children, in my eyes, are the unspoken heroes they're the ones that put up with many birthdays and Christmases without their parents and they just sort of get used to it. It's just the norm for it. And it's about time that they had their voices, and excuse the pun, heard!"

Miriam is urging the Isle of Wight to get behind the children when it comes to tonight's vote.

Britain's Got Talent starts at 8pm tonight on ITV.
