Isle Of Wight World War Two Veteran Completes Cycling Challenge For Charity - As He Turns 100!

A World War Two veteran - who lives on the Isle of Wight - is celebrating his 100th birthday today (Friday) by completing a lockdown cycling challenge for charity.

Raymond Brooks has been riding his exercise bike for 15 minutes a day, since the first lockdown in March last year.

He put his bike near the window of his home in Winford, so people could see his progress and also to encourage them to donate to Blind Veterans UK and Macmillan Cancer Support.

Mr Brooks joined the Territorial Army in 1938 and was called up to fight in WW2, where he served in the Middle East before landing in Sicily on D-Day as part of Operation Husky.

So far he raised more than £2,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support and more than £1,903 for Blind Veterans UK.

Mr Brooks, who has twin daughters, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, turns 100 today.
