Isle Of Wight's End Of Life Care Team Shortlisted For The Sun’s Who Cares Wins Awards

The end of life care team, on Wellow Unit at the Isle of Wight NHS Trust, has been shortlisted for The Sun’s Who Cares Wins health awards in the ‘Best Team’ category.

The category they have been nominated for, Best Team, is for any NHS or healthcare team on the frontline and behind the scenes that has gone above and beyond the call of duty. Wellow Unit have also made it down to the final 3, beating over 100 nominations.

Since opening in February 2020 the team have cared for over 1,300 patients and their families.

In two years, the team have supported our Island’s community through some of the toughest and most distressing times, always focussed on making sure our patients have the best possible care as their lives draw to an end.

Shane Moody, Clinical Director for End of Life Care at the Isle of Wight NHS Trust, said:

"We are absolutely delighted to have been nominated for this award. I am so proud of the team on Wellow Unit, the nomination recognises everyone's commitment and passion to provide the best possible end of life care to people and their families."

Juliet Pearce, Director of Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professionals at the Isle of Wight NHS Trust, said:

"This is a fantastic achievement for the team on Wellow Unit. Since opening in February 2020 the team have made a huge difference to people who are reaching the end of their lives. I am delighted that the team have been recognised for their commitment and hard work.”

The Sun’s Who Cares Wins health awards are organised in partnership with Channel 4, The National Lottery and NHS Charities Together.

The awards - presented by Davina McCall - will be aired on Channel 4 on Sunday (27) at 6.30pm.
