Jubilee Weekend Geo-Cache Event Brings Island Families Closer To Nature

South Wight Area Youth Partnership (SWAY) celebrated the Platinum Jubilee weekend with a Royal geo-cache.

Geocaching is an outdoor recreational activity, in which participants use mobile devices and other navigational techniques to hide and seek containers — called "geocaches" or "caches" — at specific locations marked by coordinates across the world.

Families joined the fun, with the prospective prize of a mouth-watering afternoon tea at the Royal Hotel in Ventnor adding incentive to the activity.

Fine weather helped as groups followed the map references to the approximate location of the specially made Royal Jubilee tokens with clues giving specific directions to the hiding places around the SWAY area.

Winning family, the Colmans from Newport, completed the course successfully, with the whole family, including Theo (six) and Darcie (nine) taking part.

The metal tokens had connections to royal items engraved on them such as crowns and palaces.

A spokesperson for SWAY said:

"We provides young people with groups and activities across the south Wight as well as one-to-one mentoring and family support with a range of issues such as debt, addiction and mental health.

"We work with young people and their families to build a better and more sustainable life for them, and to encourage them to take part in their community."
