Coastguards were called to Sandown last night (Monday) after a large object was spotted floating in the sea near Sandown Pier.
Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team was called to investigate at 7.11pm.
On scene, it was soon established that the item was building material that had come loose from renovation works underneath the pier.
The incident was deemed as a false alarm with good intent.
