Police were deployed to the derelict Ocean Hotel in Sandown last night (Monday 5 August) following a call at 7.16pm reporting a fire in the premises.
It’s believed that the fire was started deliberately, and police continue to investigate this incident jointly with the fire service.
Police are also supporting the ongoing partnership work with other agencies including the local authority and fire service to resolve wider issues surrounding the security of the site, and the associated anti-social behaviour and criminality.
A spokesperson for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said:
"We urge people to please keep reporting incidents and concerns to us – the information you provide will assist all agencies with the ongoing problem-solving work."
No injuries were reported.
The hotel, which has remained derelict for a number of years, was sold to Phoenix Commercial Property Development Limited in 2021, with a similar incident seeing emergency services called to a fire at the property less than a month later.
