Saturday’s Flood Updates For The Isle of Wight

As an amber weather warning comes into force across parts of the Isle of Wight, find the latest updates on flood alerts and road closures.

The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for rain covering parts of the Isle of Wight. Residents are warned that between 20mm and 40mm of rain could fall within three hours tonight (Saturday).

Flood Alerts In Force

Urgent: Immediate Risk of Flooding

Please take action to protect yourself and your property and monitor local weather and river conditions. Avoid contact with, walking or driving through flood water. Consider activating any property flood protection products you may have.

  • Carisbrooke and Hunny Hill on the Lukely Brook.
    Flooding is expected for Carisbrooke, Hunny Hill and Newport Quay Arts Centre on the Lukely Brook. Immediate action is required as properties are at risk of flooding.
  • Yarmouth
    Flooding is expected for coastal areas in Yarmouth. In previous incidents, this has affected the harbour area. Immediate action is required as properties are at risk of flooding.

Be prepared

Flooding is possible in this area. Monitor local water levels and weather conditions. Avoid using low lying footpaths or entering areas prone to flooding. Start acting on your flood plan if you have one.

  • Monktonmead Brook at Rink Road, Marymead Close, West Hill Road, Simeon Street and The Strand
  • Gurnard Luck
  • Lukely Brook from Carisbrooke to Newport

Transport and Roads

Floating Bridge

Access to the floating bridge may be curtailed over the next three nights due to higher-than-normal tides.  For a short time vehicles may and foot passengers may not be able to cross - pedestrians will have limited visibility at very high water times. If you are having a night out that involves a Floating Bridge crossing please be aware we may not be able to take you during the following times:

  • Saturday 28/10/2023 - 22:30 to 00:00
  • Sunday 29/10/2023 - 22:30 to 00:00
  • Monday 30/10/2023 - 23:00 to End of service

Bus Services

  • Route 7 Middle Road flooding
    Due to extensive flooding on the Middle Road the Route 7 at 22:55 will run via Shalfleet instead
  • Route 12 Diversion
    The route 12 is unable to serve stops on Victoria Road and at Freshwater Bay due to flooding. It will instead divert via Afton Road.
  • Route 1 Suspended
    The route 1 is currently suspended due to flooding.
  • Route 6 Suspended
    The route 6 has been suspended due to extreme flooding in the Chillerton and Billingham areas. There are also manhole covers lifting in the Niton area. There is no other suitable diversion route due to other road closures in the area.

Routes and Roads

  • Newport to Ryde via Wootton
    Listeners report a significant amount of standing water on the roads between Newport to Ryde via Wootton. Some large puddles have formed on the highway.
  • Newport to Cowes via Horsebridge Hill
    It's understood that a significant amount of water has been seen cascading down Horsebridge Hill with some properties affected by flooding.
  • Lake
    Large puddles have formed in parts of Lake, including Sandown Road.
  • Newport to Yarmouth via Forest Road
    Large sections of the road have been affected by standing water.
  • Newport to Freshwater via Middle Road
    Some sections of the road have been affected by standing water. This route is reported to be dangerous to navigate close to the junction with Betty Haunt Lane.
  • Briddlesford Road
    Large puddles have formed near to Lynbottom Tip - this route is reported to be dangerous to navigate.
  • Niton
    Motorists are being urged to take extra care due to large amounts of standing water and reports of manhole covers lifting.
  • Coppins Bridge
    Listeners are reporting flooding on Coppins Bridge in Newport this evening, affecting some lanes.
  • Newport to Shorwell via Bowcombe
    Large sections of the road through Bowcombe are badly affected by surface water. Some reports suggest the road is becoming impassable.
  • Newport to Blackwater via Newclose Cricket Ground
    It's reported that the standing water in the section of the road via Newclose Cricket Ground is particularly deep.
