Local Musicians To Make ‘Music For Ukraine’ At Quay Arts Sunday Sessions

The Quay Arts Centre in Newport will host two "Music for Ukraine" events on Sunday 27 March and Sunday 3 April.

Entry is free and all audience donations will go to the Island-based charity MAD-Aid which is co-ordinating the collection of donated items and transport to hospitals in Ukraine and neighbouring Moldova, where many Ukrainians refugees have sought sanctuary.

The event is the idea of local musician Jim Thorn who is also the organiser of the Isle of Wight Jazz Weekend

At Quay Arts, music will take place upstairs in the Anthony Minghella Theatre, and downstairs in the Cafe.

The full line-up is still to be finalised but many popular local musicians have agreed to donate their time free of charge.

These include Paul Armfield, Cat Skellington, Fellowship of Groove, Gary Plumley, Damien Paul, JC and Angelina and Jim and his jazz trio.

Jim said:

"I am delighted to have had such a positive response from Quay Arts, MAD-Aid and local musicians.

"I am aiming to put on a varied programme of jazz, blues and folk acts culminating in jam sessions where everyone can mix and match."

Local businesses are also invited to make donations of gifts  for a raffle to be run on each day with all proceeds to MAD-Aid.

A full line-up with timings will be available on the Music for Ukraine Facebook page and the Quay Arts website.
