A loud bang heard across the Island last night (Wednesday) was a suspected piece of ordnance being detonated.
It was found at a site on Artic Road, Cowes yesterday (Wednesday).
Hampshire Constabulary says it was called at 1.50pm, following the discovery.
Officers attended and put in place a 100m cordon as a precaution and a scene guard was in operation.
A controlled explosion of what was believed to be historic ordnance was carried out just before 8.50pm last night.
