Carisbrooke Road in Newport has been closed today (Monday) until Wednesday.
Southern Vectis says it is because of emergency works.
It is understood Southern Water is relaying a pipe and replacing two box chambers.
The road will be closed from 9am today until 5pm Wedsnesday.
Diversions are in place.
Buses are also unable to serve the area.
A spokesperson for Southern Water told Isle of Wight Radio:
'Carisbrooke Road is closed to allow replacement of an old pipe between the water main and a customer’s property. Island Roads has granted a closure until late on Wednesday afternoon but we will do our best to be off the road for it to reopen as soon as possible. We are sorry for the inconvenience caused by the closure which is required to allow workers to access the pipe and carry out work safely.'
