Major Emergency Response At Yaverland Following Concern For Welfare Incident

A major emergency response has been sent to Yaverland beach following an incident this lunchtime (Tuesday).

It's understood several Coastguard Rescue Teams, along with the Coastguard Rescue Helicopter and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service have been in attendance, having been summoned at just before midday.

Visitors have been evacuated from part of the beach to allow the large Coastguard Helicopter and its onboard paramedic to land at the scene.

It's not currently know exactly what prompted the response, but the helicopter was seen to take off and transit to St Mary's Hospital where it's understood at least one casualty was transferred to the hospital's Emergency Department - though their condition is currently unknown.

A HM Coastguard spokesperson said:

"HM Coastguard responded to a report of concern for a woman by the shoreline at Yaverland on 30 July.

"The alarm was raised at about 11.05am and an HM Coastguard search and rescue helicopter airlifted the woman for transfer to St Mary's Hospital.

"Bembridge and Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Teams, Sandown and Shanklin Independent Lifeboat, and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service also attended. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary was also informed."
