A man has been detained by police after a disturbance on Union Street in Ryde last night (Tuesday).
Photos and video footage captured a man appearing to cause a nuisance in the middle of the road.
The man - appearing to hold a belt and shouting obscenities - is alleged to have damaged at least one vehicle in the area.
A bystander, carrying a chainsaw, tried to calm the man and move him on.
After several minutes, the situation appeared to descalate before police arrived on the scene.
A witness told Isle of Wight Radio that the man was shouting about Winston Churchill, swearing and refused to leave - at one point sitting in the middle of Union Street.
Police were called to the incident.

*A Hampshire Constabulary spokesperson said:
"We were called at 7.12pm with reports of a disturbance in Union Street, Ryde, during which damage was caused to a car.
"A man was subsequently stopped and arrested by police on Ryde Esplanade.
"The 46-year-old was arrested on suspicion of common assault and criminal damage.
"He remains in custody at this time."
