Man In 20s Arrested After Alleged Ryde Chip Shop Burglary

A man in his 20s has been arrested after an alleged chip shop burglary in Ryde this morning (Saturday).

Police were called to the business on George Street at 5.45am following reports two men were smashing the window.

When officers arrived, the suspects reportedly left.

One man was arrested, but the other is yet to be located.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said:

'We were called at 5.45am this morning, 27 February, to reports of two men smashing the window of a fish and chip shop on George Street, Ryde.

'The men had left the area prior to police arrival.

'One man, a 23-year-old from Newport, was located on Church Lane and was arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary.

'He remains in custody.'
