An Isle of Wight man will run more than the length of a marathon on behalf of the Merchant Navy (MN) next week.
Muhammed Tamimy, who lives in Ryde will take on a round-trip between the town's Pier Head and St Catherine's Light House in Niton on Monday (February 20), setting off from Ryde at 7.08am.
Mo, Third Officer MN, told Isle of Wight Radio:
"I want to raise awareness about The Merchant Navy because I am concerned my professional ancestors will be forgotten.
"As a nation we are great at remembering but I often feel the MN is left out.
"I believe, if utilised properly by those in power, it will continue to be an asset for the country in peace and war times."
Mo aims to complete the challenge in less than 5 hours and 15 minutes (which would see him finish shortly after midday.)
He added:
"In the past I ran 30 Miles in a void space on a ship — just up and down a passageway — but I'm sure this run will be more interesting!"
People can show their support for Mo by heading to Ryde Pier Head to cheer him off the 'starting grid' shortly after 7am.
Although the purpose of the run is purely to raise awareness. Any donations are welcome to the Merchant Navy Association.
