Islanders nipping to the shops in Newport are being advised to avoid a usually-popular place to park after traffic wardens were seen 'laughing' as they handed out tickets.
'Highway repairs' mean parking is suspended on Pyle Street until midnight tonight (Wednesday).
However, drivers continue to be caught out — and they argue signage, detailing the parking suspension, isn't adequate enough. Isle of Wight Radio paid a visit to Pyle Street and saw more than six cars with fines.
One person, who had a disabled badge, said they had paid to park and still got given a penalty notice.
They claim traffic wardens are 'hanging around' the area waiting to hand them out, and are 'laughing' as they do so.
Signage saying 'no waiting, no loading, no unloading' is evident on poles in the street. There is also a sign at the entrance to the road. No works are taking place on the street as of yet.
Drivers argue the ticket machines should've been covered while the suspension is in place.
Isle of Wight Radio has asked the Isle of Wight Council for a comment.
