A mysterious - and very loud - rumbling noise had residents from across the Isle of Wight peering out of their curtains and turning their heads to the skies last night (Tuesday).
Speculation as to the cause of the low rumbling, lasting almost ten minutes, was rife on social media, with some people blaming the noise on a police helicopter.
A short investigation in to the cause of the noise showed that it was in fact the sound of a Ukrainian Air Alliance ‘Antonov An-12BK’ flying over the Island at a height of around 26,000 feet.
The plane, with the registration ‘UR-CAJ’, was manufactured in 1968, and has flown for several carriers around the globe - and also for the Ukraine Air Force between 1994 and 2007.
