A six-week consultation has launched over the future of Chillerton and Rookley Primary.
One of the options on the table is to close the school and merge it with Godshill Primary.
The council says there aren't enough pupils to fill places, and the school is also said to be facing budget challenges.
Two public meetings have been arranged which will allow people to find out more and share their thoughts and comments directly with the council.
These will be held on:
- Thursday, 25 November, between 6pm and 7.30pm, at Chillerton and Rookley Primary School.
- Thursday, 2 December, between 6pm and 7.30pm, at Godshill Primary School.
It follows a decision by Cabinet last month to undertake a further period of public consultation following an informal consultation earlier this year on the amalgamation of Chillerton and Rookley Primary School and Godshill Primary School.
The options to be considered are:
- To leave both schools open and federated, meaning the status quo remains.
- The amalgamation of Chillerton and Rookley Primary School with Godshill Primary School to be achieved through the closure of Chillerton and Rookley Primary School.
- The amalgamation of Chillerton and Rookley Primary School with Godshill Primary School to be achieved through the closure of Godshill Primary School.
- To seek an academy/free school sponsor for Chillerton and Rookley Primary School and, if successful, to defederate the school from the Stenbury Federation.
- To defederate Chillerton and Rookley from the Stenbury Federation and re-form it as a stand-alone primary school.
- To seek another local maintained school to federate with Chillerton and Rookley Primary School.
- To set up provision for flexi-schooling on the Chillerton and Rookley site to sit alongside full-time provision.
Councillor Andre added:
"It is important that the people of this school community as well as the wider area have their say on these options.
"I very much welcome the views of our residents and encourage as many people as possible to take part in this consultation so that all views can be fully considered."
People can also have their say by completing an online survey available here: https://www.surveymonkey.co.
All responses from the survey and public meetings, together with all comments received, will be collated and included in the consultation report which will be considered by the lead member, Cllr Andre, and brought to Cabinet for a final decision in February.
