New High Street Health And Wellbeing Centre To Open In Newport

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is set to open the doors to a new Health and Wellbeing Centre in the heart of Newport.

Monday (March 10) has been hailed as a major step forward in improving local health services.

A first for the Island, this fully redesigned facility brings together mental health and community care in a space that is welcoming, modern, and fully accessible for everyone.

Located at 62 High Street, the Newport Health and Wellbeing Centre will make it easier for people to access the care they need, with a focus on joining up services for both physical and mental health.

The centre boasts a spacious, open-plan layout with a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

Inside, you will find a café area perfect for a quick break, along with 11 therapy and treatment rooms designed to offer a range of support for both physical and mental health.

There are also confidential spaces to manage new referrals and private areas for remote consultations, ensuring privacy and comfort for everyone.

Family-friendly facilities are available, including baby-changing and feeding spaces, as well as a Changing Places toilet, designed for people with complex disabilities who may need assistance.

A Space Designed with the Community in Mind

This new centre has been shaped by feedback from local service users, ensuring that it meets the needs of the community. Many residents are already excited about the improved, accessible facilities, which will help support their health and wellbeing.

Ella Newham, Interim Assistant Operations Manager, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, said:

“The improvement that the new Health and Wellbeing Centre will make for both staff and the patients we care for will be incredible.

"The centre is newly refurbished and designed to be accessible and inviting, it also increases our capacity to offer more space and improve community support in a comfortable, welcoming environment for all.”

The centre will bring together a wide range of health professionals, including Community Nurses, Physical Therapists, Community Mental Health Teams, and Psychological Therapies, all in one location.

This will allow for better collaboration, improving efficiency and enhancing care.

With more flexible meeting spaces, professionals will be able to work together and engage with the community in new and exciting ways.

Lucy Abel, Deputy Director of Operations, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, said:

“This is a very exciting development for our community and staff. Health and care professionals will now be able to collaborate with each other in one location, meaning they can more easily work together to share professional experience and expertise which will enhance both staff and patient experience of care.”

This much-anticipated project has been in development for over two years, beginning before the Community, Mental Health and Learning Disability Services from Isle of Wight NHS Trust became part of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust in October 2024.

Joe Smyth, Chief Officer, Isle of Wight NHS Trust, said:

“We are proud of the role we played in securing the funding and building for this fantastic facility.

"It is wonderful to see the new centre finally open and we look forward to continuing to work closely with our colleagues at Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust for the benefit of our island community.”
