A Newport charity has received the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service.
Pan Together was presented with the honour on Wednesday (28) by His Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of the Isle of Wight, Susie Sheldon.
The charity exists to support and provide a community hub for the residents of East Newport.
This is the highest award a voluntary organisation can receive in the UK and is the organisational equivalent of an MBE.
Laura Byrne, Chair of Pan Together's trustees, said:
"Following the death of Her Late Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, the award has a particularly special meaning for us - especially as it was part of Her Majesty's Platinum Jubilee celebrations. We are immensely proud of our achievements - and receiving the award is beyond our wildest dreams. Today has been truly special".
His Majesty's Lord Lieutenant, Susie Sheldon, said:
"This is fantastic news and very well deserved. The charity's work over the last two years has been exceptional as the pandemic caused so many problems in the Pan area but the ongoing work is, as always, a lifeline to the community".
The award citation, read at the ceremony by Kate Collins DL, said:
"This is an extraordinary success story. There are many high quality community centres and cafes but Pan Together stands apart from the rest. This is not just a centre where people can come. This is a centre that goes out into the community, going the extra mile to look after all in Pan".
