Two People Taken To Hospital Following Newport Crash

A collision on the outskirts of Newport this morning (Thursday) has led to fire, police and ambulance crews being called out.

Police closed Forest road after a crash adjacent to Betty Haunt Lane, thought to have involved two vehicles.

The Southern Vectis Route 7 will be diverted from Newport in both directions.

A road closure has been put in place, with disruption to travel services ongoing.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said:

"We were called at 8.55am to a report of a collision involving two cars on Forest Road.

"Officers have attended and two people have been treated by paramedics."

UPDATE 9.48am

Two people have now been taken to St Mary's Hospital as a result of the crash.

A spokesperson for the Isle of Wight NHS Ambulance Service said:

"We dispatched two ambulances to attend to an incident at Vittlefields crossroads where Forest Road meets Whitehouse Road and Betty Haunt Lane this morning.

"Two people (have been) involved in this road traffic incident.

"Treatment was provided on the scene and two people have now been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital."

A spokesperson for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said:

"One fire engine from Newport was sent to Forest Road at just after 9am this morning, following a RTC involving two vehicles.

"The crew helped make the scene safe before leaving at just after 9.30am."
